Antiques/Brocante/Junque

-- Parisian Shopping Streets
Outdoor Roving Markets
and Flea Markets

Here what you have happened upon is my shopping street and nearby-points-of-interest itinerary for my next Paris adventure. I shall print this out for myself and put it in my small backpack/purse. And perhaps, if you are as strange as I (and cheap, and interested in Sarah Bernhardt ), perhaps, just perhaps, this page might be of value to you, too. Parisian Shopping Streets

Streets that appeared repeatedly in the LES PAGES JAUNES/LES PAGES BLANCHES while searching for Antiques/Brocante/Junque shops I'd be interested in:

Rue Bonaparte, Rue Jacob, Rue de Seine, pl Palais Royal, pl Vosges, bd Voltaire, quai Voltaire, r Fbg St Honoré, r Verneuil, bd St Germain, La Motte Picquet

Streets packed with boutiques, antiques, galleries and book shops...or The Street Where Frasier and Niles Would Live:

Rue de Sèvres, Rue Bonaparte, Rue de Four, Rue St-Sulpice, Rue Jacob, and the Rue de Seine

If you're a tea service freak like me:

Galerie 88 TEA ROOMS 88 quai Hôtel de Ville 75004

Restaurants du Bon Marché TEA ROOMS 38 r Sèvres 75007

Les Marchés aux Puces (Flea Markets) --
or Where Niles and Frasier Wouldn't be Caught Dead

No, I didn't forget to use an anti-glare filter. I LIKE deciphering the glare to see what the horse saw through the window. Clignancourt Flea Market/Marché aux Puces. I referred to the treasures in my home (my "antique" Queen Anne sideboard, and dining table with six chairs from Scotland; my cherry china cabinet with wooden wheels from England; my collection of pink Depression Glass; etc.) as "Junque" [ZHUH AHHHHNK] for years. Until Veronique, whom I hope never loses her enchanting French accent, told me that brocante means basically "second-hand" or as I like to say, "previously treasured".
Voila! I can now say my home is done in brocante [BRO CAAAH].
Thanks, Veronique; Flea Market Mary now takes pride in sounding ever so cultured! No, I didn't forget to use an anti-glare filter. I especially like deciphering this window's glare. Clignancourt Flea Market/Marché aux Puces.

I absolutely admit I'm strange, but I love my crackled white-with-blue-flowers second-hand stoneware milk pitcher I got in Belgium (for a song) in a tiny, quaint, dusty shop more than any packaged lace amongst Belgian key chains, and snow-globes at a souvenir shop.

My favorite souvenirs from my 1996 Paris trip are my photos of the wildlife at the Clignancourt Flea Market/Marché aux Puces.* Mannequin foot at Clignancourt Flea Market
People-watching at French Marche aux Puces is just as fun for me as at American flea markets. Once past Clignancourt's Jim Morrison and Bob Marley wall hangings, military surplus, and into the No, I didn't forget to use an anti-glare filter. I LIKE deciphering the glare to see what the dolls saw through the window. Clignancourt Flea Market/Marché aux Puces. Marché Brion (corner Rue des Rossiers) and the Paul Bert Market, (16 rue Paul Bert) there was treasure after treasure. Heady ANTIQUES and delightful brocante. Tight-budgeted, I couldn't do much but be enthralled by the goodly stuff, but enthralled I was. I have memories of the experience and photos. We also have a COOL worn leather jacket, a vintage violet (our daughters' middle names are both Violet) postcard written in French, and some vintage stamps purchased for a pittance...

*Clignancourt Flea Market
Ave Michelet at Rue des Rossiers, Sat-M dawn-7 p.m., M=Porte de Clignancourt
Some areas of the Clignancourt Flea Market were fleasier than others. Acres of the most famous flea market in France, once you get past the cheap trash

Aligre Flea Market
Placed'Aligre, Tues-Sun until 1 p.m., M=Ledru-Rollin

Montruil Flea Market
Porte de Montreuil, Sat-M 9-6, M=Porte de Montreuil
Once you get past cheap trash vendors on the bridge

Vanves Flea Market
Porte-de-Vanves, Sat & Sun 9-7, M=Porte-de-Vanves
The locals' market, more manageable than Clignancourt

Shopping Streets

Rue de Buci, M=St-Germain-des-Pres Rue de Buci

Rue Cler (Rick Steves' favorite), M=Ecole Militaire 24+- Rue Cler

Rue Lepic, M=Abbesses Rue Lepic

Rue Mouffetard, M=Monge Lovely photo of Rue Mouffetard, but the shops are definitely cheesy, which can be good! Sometimes you WANT to buy Eiffel Tower earrings (as a joke) amongst the infamous French Postcards

Lovely photo of Rue Mouffetard, supplied by LES PAGES JAUNES/LES PAGES BLANCHES

Sometimes you WANT a pair of tacky Eiffel Tower earrings...for christmas ornaments Rue Mouffetard shops are definitely cheesy...which can be good! Sometimes you WANT a pair of tacky Eiffel Tower earrings - for Christmas ornaments.
